Many of the children served are often in considerable physical or emotional pain, and can lose their inner strength. Inner strength is a vital component for pulling through long and arduous treatments. While the children may lose the spirit in their hearts, their energy, or even their mobility, the goal of Project Sunshine is to put smiles on their faces and help them realize they are not alone.
Project Sunshine has over 225 chapters throughout the United States. In the last year,10,000 volunteers have participated in Project Sunshine programs. Some of the volunteer activities include:
Providing educational arts and crafts programs
Organizing holiday parties and special events on pediatric units
Running an AIDS buddy visiting program
Tutoring children who miss school due to hospitalization
Distributing age-appropriate toys and games
Creating sports leagues for children with special needs
Repainting and refurnishing pediatric units in hospitals
Making craft kits, dolls, and get well cards to distribute to pediatric wards
