Singer Beyonce and her husband, rapper and entrepreneur, Jay Z, officially welcomed their first child into the world yesterday! The Houston Chronicle reported that Beyonce gave birth to a healthy baby girl in New York City and is doing great! Sources reported that the couple rented out the whole floor of the hospital when Beyonce gave birth, to ensure extra privacy and precaution. 

Beyonce's close friends and family took to twitter to express their excitement and congratulate the couple. Rihanna tweeted, "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." While Beyonce's little sister, Solange tweeted, "The most beautiful little girl in the world".

This morning in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, President Barack Obama declared that the nine year conflict between America and Iraq is finally ending, “not with a final battle but with a final march toward home”. (Yahoo.com)

President Obama has stated that the U.S will continue with civilian assistance for Iraq but the American troops are scheduled to be completely out of the country on December 31, 2011. The President is clear not to claim victory, as he was very against this nine year war from the start. The war in Iraq has ended the lives of over 4,500 American’s during its nine year span.

It’s been a long six years for writer, Sophia Stewart but it seems as if justice has finally been served for the copyright infringement of the Matrix and Terminator franchises.  Stewart filed a case in 1999 after viewing the box office hit, “The Matrix”, in which she felt, was based off her own story that she originally titled, “The Third Eye” and copyrighted in 1981. She submitted her story to the Wachowski Brothers after responding to an ad that was asking for new science fiction works.

Once the FBI got involved in the case, they discovered that a substantial amount of the plot was removed from the original film which investigators believed was in attempts to avoid “copyright infringement”. Co-hosted by Regina King and Tracee Ellis Ross, this event is entirely dedicated to the recognition of black women's accomplishments in entertainment, athletics, business, philanthropy, activism and more.  Saturday night at the Paradise Theater beautiful and talented, headlining performers joined together in celebration of this occasion.  Erykah Badu opened BGR 2011 with "Apple Tree", Jill scott performed "Hate On Me" to a standing audience and Mary J. Blige sang her classic jam "My Life" to perfection.

Special honorees included gospel legend, Shirley Ceasar, actress Taraji P. Henson, political activist, scholar and author, Angela Davis and the brave Ruby Bridges who at 6 years old was the first black child to integrate a white elementary school in the south.

On Friday, Essence Magazine and Southern Company honored Tom Joyner as an influential leader and advocate of change in Washington DC. On Saturday, Joyner and KISS 98.7 joined Eric Benet and Chrisette Michelle to celebrate the New York Urban Football Classic at the new Meadowlands in a game played between HBCU standouts Howard University and Morgan State University.  Sunday morning, he joined CNN host TJ Holmes as they discussed the concept of creating awareness and wellness in the black community with the Tom Joyner’s Take a Loved One to the Dr. Day, Friday, September 30. While Joyner will broadcast New York that day, remote broadcasts with other hosts from the Tom Joyner Morning Show will take place in Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas and Washington DC.
