Raqiyah Mays
Raqiyah has written about music, culture, politics, and women for publications like VIBE, Essence, Billboard, The Associated Press, The Source, XXL, and Complex Magazine . She was reporter at large for the VIBE book Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of The Notorious B.I.G. And as executive editor of the new, socially aware hip hop magazine The Ave , Raqiyah regularly teaches non-fiction writing classes to teenagers in Harlem, New York.
Raqiyah's work as a journalist was featured on MTV's hit reality show Making the Band II. She's also been interviewed on UPN Nightly News, BET Nightly News, The Fox News Channel's top rated talk show Hannity and Colmes, along with The New York Daily News, Newsday, Billboard, and internet sites around the world. Syndicated radio shows across America, like the ABC Network's 'Sean Hannity Show,' Fox Radio's 'Alan Colmes Show,' and the Urban Radio Network's 'Bev Smith Show,' have all had Raqiyah as a guest. Her vocal opinions have also been discussed on The View, The Howard Stern Show, and Comedy Central's Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.
A former DJ on other New York radio stations, she also worked at Sirius Satellite Radio where she produced shows for legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash. Popular on the speaking circuit, Raqiyah has spoken at The Million Youth March, and has moderated and sat on panels at several music and political conferences. Always passionate about giving back, Raqiyah regularly makes special guest appearances at community groups and schools throughout the year. In pursuit of expanding her career, she's working on a forthcoming book and documentary.
